Kyle Hughes-Odgers “Happy Tree”

Artwork media: Aluminium, light, paint

Locally and globally renowned, Kyle Hughes-Odgers is a multi-disciplinary visual artist working across various media including drawing, painting, writing and sculpture.

His artworks are inspired by nature and human behaviour, and how these subjects intersect. He explores these ideas through abstraction and his unique, contemporary approach to narrative.

Inspired by the site’s location, an inherent opportunity to extend Karawara’s green corridor, Hughes-Odgers researched nearby natural environments, finding inspiration in flora (Golden Wattle) and fauna (Willie-Wagtail).

Through study of patterns and forms, a minimal yet sophisticated colour palette and series of shapes was developed into the artwork you see on site. The work’s sense of movement across the ground plane treatment draws you in, pulling the viewers’ eye toward the sculptural focal point and seamlessly up until viewers find themselves connecting with the beauty of their local natural environment; canopies of trees, flying birds and the sky beyond.

Hughes-Odgers artwork is a bold, engaging response that evokes positivity, wellbeing and calm, and he is enjoying seeing this work come to life, “It’s nice to watch people as well, they’re not just viewing on a wall they’re actually part of the painting.”
